Seeing Through the Distance

In my room,
I see the world
through leaves
and blossom clusters
on undulating boughs.

I watch bees who know their daily
flight path
or do they fly
by the scent of attraction?

Dancing over new terrain,
lighting a fire
in the innocence of discovery,

can there be blame
for not knowing a new language,
or visiting that ancient city before..
or unearthing the signs
to reach here?

It's experience
that delivers
a smooth performance.

Teachers say:
Skills can be learned on the job.
Like pouring wine,
baking bread
and gathering fish from the sea.

Reading
brings them closer
but the tasting,
Is at the table.

Until living in truth
facing self as art
life is not as it appears,
nor is it deemed
to be otherwise.

Tossing sails to the wind,
moving
across rising currents
warriors lift
through the blue.

The keeper of this gate
says:

'If we give our heart,
If we have given it fully,
we have truly
loved.'
