Opening

Twice today I softened
with the sound
of my own breath.

Once with the thought of an aging woman
with a diagnosis,
unsure about how long
she has to live
and if she really wants too.

And again tonight. This second time
at Ryokan, watching people in the world,
then fretting about how we suffer
torturing ourselves,
unable to satisfy desires
grasping *for the moon in water.*

If tonight finds you
thirsting and tired
because plans change
and now you question
whether to step out
into the spacious future,
or remain with a hand
on your own door..

Remember,
there are days
that should be for walking on.

Lament what cannot be,
but even the foolish learn
some things that happen
can be the cause
for not much joy.
